The QU Dancing With The Stars 2012
On Friday March 23rd, 2012 from 8-10 PM, The Quinnipiac Ballroom Society will be holding its first annual Dancing with the QU Stars event in Burt Kahn Court on Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel Campus. That evening, Quinnipiac faculty and staff will be coupled up with student experts from Quinnipiac Ballroom Society to compete a set of routines against one another. There will be a sit down dinner, general bleacher seating, an open dance floor during intermissions, a live DJ, and professional lighting. The event promises to be professional, formal, and a huge success.
Our goal is to raise money for both Quinnipiac Ballroom Society and Camp Sunshine, an organization that runs free camps for children and their families undergoing treatment for fatal illnesses.
Camp Sunshine’s mission statement describes it as a “year-round retreat, which provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. The program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support; and bereavement groups are also offered for families who have lost a child to an illness” (www.campsunshine.org). Quinnipiac Ballroom Society has made the decision to benefit Camp Sunshine by donating a portion of the proceeds earned from the event to this organization.
The Quinnipiac Ballroom Society is an organization not recognized by the university. With no budget provided by the university, we often struggle to raise funds for our own events, and at times must reach into our own pockets to make said events possible. Our goal is to use our talents to benefit those who are less fortunate. However, we cannot reach this goal without help from others. This being the first event that the Ballroom Society has done of such caliber, we feel we cannot do this alone, and for that, we are reaching out to the community.
The Quinnipiac Ballroom Society is simply asking local business and institutions to help these children at Camp Sunshine any way they can. If you wish to co-sponsor the event, make a monetary donation, or provide food, decorations, costumes, or by buying an ad on our Playbill, anything would be greatly appreciated to better this event.
