Name: Victoria Ricotta

Graduating Class: 2012

Major: Psychology, Drama Minor

I joined QBS when I transferred in to QU in the middle of freshman year. I had been dancing since I was 3 with a professional ballet company when I got hurt and ended my ballet career at 16. I didn’t want to give up dancing so I decided to try a different style where I could get my fix of dancing without having to deal with the strict demands of ballet.

I fell in love with ballroom and joining the group at QU was the best decision I have made since I started here. I was afraid I would be treated as the new kid but everyone took me under their wing and made me feel like I really belonged there. The group has really become a family and I have truly enjoyed watching them all grow as dancers, become friends, and share experiences as a family.

Name: Jaclyn A. Croyle

Graduating Class: 2012

Major: Biomedical Science major with a concentration in Neurobiology and a minor in Chemistry

I am the Treasurer of the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society and have been a member since my freshman year in Fall 2008.  Initially I thought it would be a great way to add some fun into my busy schedule, however it turned out to be much more than that; not only have I become confident in both smooth and latin dances, but I have also met great people who have become close friends.

Entering various competitions, such as those hosted by Yale and the University of Connecticut, as well as performing with the other members in showcases like the Ronald McDonald Dancing Under the Stars charity event has made this wonderful experience!

Name:  Matthew Ryan Schlau

Graduating Class:  2010

Major:  Computer Science (minors: theatre, philosophy, psychology and certification as an aerobics instructor)

Oh great, another interview where first impressions are key, huh? Let's cut to the chase then, as I'm sure you've all taken the time by now to read over my impeccable resume.  My name is Matt and I was appointed as secretary of QBS to keep things organized and promote the ongoing success and progress of our fine club.  I started dancing in 2008 when I began to gain interest in musical theatre (that’s right; I also act and sing.  If you don’t believe me, then you’re welcome to check my credentials with the president of the student theatre club [4th Wall] on campus…that would be me).

My favorite dance routine is swing and although you may not believe it yet, if you join our dancing ensemble, I guarantee that you’ll encounter no saner dancer than I.

Name: Tiffany Reid

Graduating Class: 2013

Major: Health Science Studies & Spanish minor

Position: Event Planner

Ballroom has offered me nothing but the best! I have always had a great interest in dancing, but never fulfilled this interest in high school, and my younger days because I was always preoccupied with other activities. When I found out QU ballroom required no experience, I quickly joined my freshmen year! After a couple months I competed in my first competition at UCONN and it was the best experience ever.

Ballroom is also a great way to meet new people, interact, relax and relieve tension, and just have fun. You don't have to be a pro to join! Just be yourself and have fun! QU ballroom is not only a social activity for me but a family of wonderful people that I can feel comfortable around!

Name: Christopher Flaherty

Graduating Class: 2013

Major: Film, Video, & Interactive Media, English Minor

I've always loved to dance, but never taken any classes or done anything professional. That's when QBS came in. I was introduced to a whole new world of dancing, and I have truly learned so much. I've met a lot of wonderful people, and as one of the new event coordinator's this year, I hope to take an even bigger role in QBS and get a lot more involved. QBS has helped make college feel like a second home. Oh, and my favorite dances are swing and rumba!

Name: Catherine Victoria Makuch

Graduating Class: 2014

Major: Criminal Justice & Chemistry

People would never expect that I have an old thing for dancing. When I was younger I had a passion for ballet and figure skating. As I grew older, it started to hide behind my school work while I was just trying to get into college. Here I am now as a freshman as the Public Relations chair for the Quinnipiac Ballroom Society and enjoying every minute of it. I have created new friends and joined this family only to have fun every time I enter the studio. It’s a great thing that I’ve joined because now, I can really say I love to tango.

Name: Cristina de Jesus

Graduating Class: 2014

Major: Criminal Justice

I joined ballroom without an ounce of knowledge on how to dance any of the dances except salsa, so I felt I needed to really expand on my experience. At first I thought that everyone else in the group knew what they were doing but it turned out most of us are beginners. Being in ballroom has boosted my confidence level to new heights and I recommend everyone to pay us a visit sometime to see how much fun it really is.

My favorite dances to show off to my family are Swing and Rumba. My family is extremely supportive of my decision to dance and is very proud of how much I've learned in just one semester.
